Meet an Astronomer | The Kuiper Belt with Dr. Larry Wasserman

The Kuiper Belt consists of those objects which orbit the Sun beyond Neptune. It was actually “discovered” with the 1930 discovery of Pluto, but nobody realized what was really out there until a second object was found in 1992. We have now been able to study this part of the Solar System for 28 years and have discovered thousands of these objects. What have we learned about these faint, icy, primitive bodies? And what about the big question regarding Pluto. Is it a planet? For that matter, what is (or what should be) a planet? Lowell Observatory Astronomer Dr. Larry Wasserman helps us answer these questions.

Of all Buddha’s teachings, none are more far-reaching and transformative than the teachings on emptiness, the true nature of reality. By meditating on emptiness we can realize the world is merely an appearance to mind, like a dream, and through this we can learn to let go, live lightly in our world, and keep a happy mind.
About the Teacher: Kadam Michelle Gauthier is a Kadampa Buddhist Teacher at the IKRC Grand Canyon. She has been a disciple of Venerable Geshe Keslang Gyatso for 23 years. She is an inspiring example of Modern Buddhism in practice. She presents Buddha's teachings with beautiful clarity, warmth and sincerity, skillfully guiding people from all walks of life to find inner peace and lasting happiness.
