Begin at the Coconino Center for the Arts with a presentation on best practices for night shooting. We will discuss a range of topics including how to find a dark sky area and preparing for the shot, an overview of camera and lens settings, how to focus a lens in the dark and recommendations for framing a capture. We will discuss moon cycles and the procession of the milky ways position and how it will relate to your shots. There will be a demo on a typical night sky edit as well as a look at exposure blending and why it is important for night photography.

11pm end shooting

Local artist and landscape designer, Pieter Schaafsma will provide a discussion on the aesthetics of Stone Balancing and the place and time for stone balances in nature. Recent controversial concerns about the movement of rocks in the wilderness will be addressed in this eye opening talk.
Demonstrations by four expert stone balancing artists, Simone Campisano, Peter Juhl, Bob Bernal and Douglass Case will describe the creation of different kinds of stone balances. Douglas Case will demonstrate how to create a Zig Zag balance, Robert Bernal will demonstrate a small arch, Simone will demonstrate a Counter Balance and Peter Juhl will demonstrate Top Heavy.
Following the theater presentations, participants will have the opportunity to go outside for hands on learning and practice, based on the styles and techniques learned from the experts. All of the instructors will be available for guidance and advice as participants try out their new practice of mediation, balance and art.
