SPACE BETWEEN – Opening Reception @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Aug 24 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

SPACE BETWEEN is an exploration of two artists with adjacent yet distinctive styles. Both Flagstaff locals, Sky Black and Jacques Cazaubon Seronde (“Cazo”) both strive to create works that are accessible to the viewer while maintaining an endowment of the unexpected. Whether this breach of expectation comes in the form of figures and foliage emerging from the paint itself, or surreal combinations of animals and humans, both painters commit themselves to the process of creating quality handmade images.

The Opening Reception will take place Saturday, August 24, 6-8pm. Featuring a short performance by Dapper Dre, music by DJ Marty Mar, light refreshments and beer provided by Mother Road Brewing Co.

Exhibition Open: June 18 – July 27, 2019  | Wed-Sat, 11am-5pm
Find out more about the show and artist bios on the exhibition page, here.

It’s Elemental 2019 – Opening Reception & Members Preview @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Nov 9 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Steve Schaeffer

The Flagstaff Arts Council is excited to host the opening of the 2019 It’s Elemental with a Members’ Preview Saturday, November 9th, 5-6 p.m. followed by the Public Opening Reception 6-8 p.m.

It’s Elemental is an annual exhibition at the Coconino Center for the Arts, serving as a perfect lead up to the holiday season. It has its roots from the earliest days at the Center, from the mid-1980′s to the mid-1990′s. Back then, the exhibition was titled, “Wood, Fiber, Clay.” The Center closed in the late 1990′s, but when it reopened in 2001, the exhibition returned with its current name and concept.

The popular fine craft exhibition,  showcases works of art by the finest craftspeople in Arizona. The annual juried show features jewelry, ceramics, glasswork, wood, furniture, fabric, sculpture and more. This year’s exhibition will be open November 13 – December 14, 2019, Wednesday-Saturday, 11:00am-5:00pm.

In our lobby, we host It’s Ornamental on our Christmas Tree. Many of the participating artists have created one-of-a-kind handmade ornaments for the holiday season. They donated these to the Arts Council, and we sell them at affordable prices ($5 – $35) to raise money to support exhibitions at the Coconino Center for the Arts.

The exhibition is accompanied by the Fine Craft Sale on December 7 and 8, 2019, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 – 4 p.m on Sunday. The Fine Craft Sale is a juried holiday marketplace featuring local craftspeople. Now in its eighth year, the Sale is a popular fixture in Flagstaff’s holiday season.
