Greenhouse Productions and the Flagstaff Arts Council present

The Accidentals

Named among Yahoo Music’s “Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2017,” The Accidentals’ adventure began in their hometown of Traverse City, MI. The female-fronted, multi-instrumentalist power trio, The Accidentals (Sav Buist, Katie Larson, and Michael Dause) kicked off 2018 with the release of their debut album, Odyssey, with Sony Masterworks. They followed the album release with two-hundred days of touring nationally, seventeen festivals, sync placement with Turner Classic Movies, FOX sports, and a RAM Trucks BANDvan #tourtough commercial.

They released their latest single, “Heavy Flag,” produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Lana Del Ray, The Decemberists) in October, and they aren’t slowing down going into 2019. They are currently scoring an indie film, touring, teaching workshops across the country, and releasing new music.

PopMatters says you can’t define them by comparison to any one band, comparing them to a mash up of influences including, “The Beatles, Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Led Zeppelin, Ani Difranco, Neko Case, Brandi Carlile, etc.” NPR says “they display equal interest in the focused musical forms of indie rock and pop and the expansive potential of orchestral arrangements, jam band open-endedness and impressionistic singer-songwriter expression,” adding, “they might be the most compelling songwriters of our time.”

The show will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2019, doors are at 6:30pm and the show will start at 7:30pm. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 on the day of the show, with a $40 VIP ticket option. VIP tickets include early access, swag and a preferred seats in the first two rows.  Tickets can be purchased online, in person at Coconino Center for the Arts. Figure Drawing with Instruction – POSTPONED @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Oct 28 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

*This workshop has been postponed to January 2020. Confirmed dates will be announced soon.

The Flagstaff Arts Council presents a weekly Figure Drawing Workshop led by Shawn Skabelund beginning  Monday, September 30th, 2019! The workshop consists of 5 three-hour sessions drawing from a live model. The sessions will be held in the gallery at the Coconino Center for the Arts on Monday evenings, 6-9pm

Nothing can be more enjoyable, yet at the same time more demanding, than drawing from the figure. It takes total concentration and can be very taxing by the time a particular session comes to a close, but as one concentrates, one wonders where the time has gone by.

In this course, the instructor uses the formal elements of drawing in describing the figure. Through a series of exercises, students will expand our drawing/seeing skills. The course is specifically set up to help students to see form and apply it onto a two-dimensional surface.

This is an opportunity to study and receive personal instruction in figure drawing from award-winning artist, Shawn Skabelund.  Shawn holds degrees from Utah State University and the University of Iowa. A nationally exhibited artist, his work has been featured in Sculpture Magazine and numerous regional publications. Shawn is also a Viola Visual Arts award winner for his exhibition Virga: The Hunt for Water.

NOTE: This course is for those who have never drawn from the figure before or have had beginning figure drawing, but have never moved into intermediate or advanced figure drawing courses.

Pricing:  $140 for Arts Council members & $155 for non-members.

If you have questions about this session, contact Sarah Smallwood at (928) 779-2300 x103.

Open Figure Drawing Sessions
with moderator Frederica Hall

Tuesday evenings, 6-9pm, September 10 – October 29, 2019

The Flagstaff Arts Council will host open sessions for artists to draw from a live model in the main gallery at the Coconino Center for the Arts. The eight-week series is for those artists who would like to practice drawing or other art working from a live model but do not wish to have instruction. Participants may register to attend all eight sessions at a discounted rate: $125 for Arts Council members and students, or $145 for the public. Otherwise, participants may sign up for individual dates at $18/session for members and $20/session for nonmembers.

Please note that there is NO instruction provided. Frederica Hall will be the moderator and help direct the model and take requests from participants on poses and timing. Other than that, participants are on their own to draw or create using the model as inspiration. No materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring easels to use. Some drawing horses are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Advance registration is strongly encouraged even for a single date; drop-ins are welcome but may be turned away if the session is full.

Frederica Hall follows a multi-disciplinary approach in the arts, working primarily in visual arts that source performance-art and vice versa. Her work is informed by the mysterious surrounding cosmos, reflections on myth, metaphor, and humanities’ uncharted origins.
