Do’s and Don’ts of Nonprofit Board Development (two-part series) @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Mar 30 @ 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

TWO-DAY Workshop
Sat, March 30 & Sun, March 31 | 9am-12:30pm

The board of directors of a nonprofit organization is the ultimate governing body of the group. Individually and collectively, the board is responsible for financial oversight, providing leadership and direction, being transparent and accountable to its stakeholders, and protecting its legal liability.

It’s rare to discover a board member of a nonprofit that has strong expertise in all areas of board duties. Nearly every board member will benefit by developing knowledge in each of these areas.

REGISTER NOW

These two half-day workshops led by Jarrett Ransom will cover:

  • Recruiting New Board Members
  • Onboarding and Training
  • Keeping Your Board Engaged
  • Evaluating of Board Members
  • Firing a Board Member
  • Fundraising for Boards

Jarrett Ransom has more than 15 years of international and national experience in nonprofit management. In 2009 she created the Rayvan Group, a nonprofit consulting firm focusing on sustainable practices for nonprofits worldwide. Their specialities include strategic visioning, fund and board development, donor stewardship, client and corporate relations, special events, and grant writing. She develops comprehensive growth strategies for nonprofits and entrepreneurial businesses and helps them reach their goals.

Jarrett holds an MBA in business from the University of Phoenix and Certificate of Grant Writing from The Grantsmanship Center Institute. She is the recipient of many awards such as 40 Under 40, AZCentral Who’s Next Nominee, Greater Phoenix Athena Nominee, AmAZing Women of Arizona recipient and the Global Women’s Summit Leadership Award. There is no denying Jarrett’s passion about empowering others and supporting mission-driven organizations that benefit their community.

Price for both days is: $45 for members/ $55 non-members

Dive into Natural Dyes w/ Tasha Griffith @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Jun 9 @ 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

Dive into Natural Dyes w/ Tasha Griffith

Learn everything you need to know to begin working with natural dyes or to switch your creative practice from chemical dyes to use colors from nature. We’ll cover the best practices to get vibrant colors on animal and plant fibers, using dyes from our local area, as well as those from the kitchen and around the world. We’ll bust myths, dig into science, and get creative for truly amazing, nuanced colors using sustainable methods. You’ll leave with samples of all the colors we make, and a solid foundation to begin your own explorations.

Experience: All levels are welcome/no experience necessary.

Materials included with the fee: $25 (Includes all dyes, mordants, sample yarns, propane for burners, etc.)

Students should bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes which you don’t mind getting dye on. We’ll be working outside and it may be hot, so bring water, a sun hat, and whatever else you need to keep yourself comfortable.
  • Rubber gloves
  • Notebook
  • Optional: A skein of undyed yarn (up to 4 oz) to dye for use in your own projects. This can be either animal fiber (wool, silk, alpaca, etc.) or plant fiber (cotton, linen, hemp etc.), but must be all natural (no synthetic fiber content).
  • A waterproof container to take wet yarn home in.

Tasha Griffith has been a lover of handmade goods since she was a child. Her mother made most of her clothes and she had access to tools and materials at a young age. Today Tasha is a skilled craftsman specializing in felting, knitting, embroidery, and more. She believes that the key to a more sustainable, empowered, and grounded life can be found by using your hands to make things. In her classes, students gain a strong understanding from her tutorials and cultivate a connection to their projects. Her style of education uses hands-on experimentation and a supportive environment. The goal of Tasha’s workshops is to make sure every person leaves with a new set of skills and ideas that they can enhance and share with others.
