It’s Elemental 2018 – Members’ Preview @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Nov 10 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Breathe by Jennifer Holt

We welcome Arts Council Members to join us for a special preview of the It’s Elemental exhibition 2018 on Saturday, November 10, at 5pm. The event will be followed by the Public Opening Reception 6-8 p.m. The popular fine craft exhibition, It’s Elemental, showcases works of art by the finest craftspeople in Northern Arizona.

The annual juried show features jewelry, ceramics, glasswork, wood, furniture, fabric, sculpture and more. This year’s exhibition will be open November 13 – December 19, 2018, Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00am-5:00pm.

In our lobby, we host It’s Ornamental on our Christmas Tree. Many of the participating artists have created one-of-a-kind handmade ornaments for the holiday season. They donated these to the Arts Council, and we sell them at affordable prices ($5 – $35) to raise money to support exhibitions at the Coconino Center for the Arts.

It’s Elemental is an annual exhibition at the Coconino Center for the Arts, serving as a perfect lead up to the holiday season. It has its roots from the earliest days at the Center, from the mid-1980′s to the mid-1990′s. Back then, the exhibition was titled, “Wood, Fiber, Clay.” The Center closed in the late 1990′s, but when it reopened in 2001, the exhibition returned with its current name and concept.

The exhibition is accompanied by the Fine Craft Sale on December 1-2, 2018, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 – 4 p.m on Sunday. The Fine Craft Sale is a juried holiday marketplace featuring local craftspeople. Now in its eighth year, the Sale is a popular fixture in Flagstaff’s holiday season.

10×10 Exhibition & Art Sale – Opening Reception 2019 @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Jan 12 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

The Flagstaff Arts Council is pleased to present the 10×10 Exhibition & Sale. This show features the work of 100 artists who have created new, original work and have donated each for sale to support the Coconino Center for the Arts. The small 10×10 size makes the purchase price fit most budgets and either adds to your existing collection or starts you on your way to becoming an art collector!

The first chance to purchase new, affordable works of art in the exhibition will be at the Members Preview reception, Saturday, January 12 at 5 pm. Not yet a member? Join here and your name will be added to our door list! The reception is open to the public from 6-8pm. The evening will feature hors d’oeuvre from Whisk & Whiskey, a cash bar, and music by Marley Wall.

This benefit art show is a fantastic fundraiser; the 2015 and 2017 exhibitions raised more than $10,000 to support programming at the Center.

This year, we’ve added an interesting twist to the exhibition. We invited four artists to serve as curators, including seeking out the work and directing the installation. Our curators are Elizabeth Bonzani, Joe Cornett, Darcy Falk, and Jerrel Singer and we know you’ll love what they have in store for you.

Our 2019 exhibition will feature a number of well-known artists as well as a variety of up-and-comers. Participating artists (so far) include Sky Black, Elizabeth Bonzani, Joe Cornett, Elaine Dillingham, Darcy Falk, Emma Gardner, Brian David Griffith, Jason Hess, Sonja London-Hall, Arline Martens, Rebekah Nordstrom, Kailey Quick, Steve Schaeffer, Gil Scott, Jacques Cazaubon Seronde, Shawn Skabelund, and Connie Townsend among many others.

NightVisions VII – Reception @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Apr 12 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

More than two-thirds of Americans live where they can no longer see the Milky Way galaxy because of light pollution. We have grown so isolated from night that in much of our culture it has become alien and fearful. NightVisions VII seeks to re-open our positive connections to the natural night and to bridge the divide separating artistic from scientific perception, promoting the idea that science and art are two intertwined aspects of human experience.

In other words, NightVisions is an art exhibition that celebrates the beauty of the night sky. The exhibition is hosted at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff, Arizona. Flagstaff was designated as the world’s first International Dark Skies City, enacting limitations on light pollution to preserve the community’s exquisite view of the night sky, and leading a worldwide movement.

NightVisions VII schedule of events:

Members’ Preview: Friday April 12,  5-6pm
Public Opening Reception: Friday April 12,  6-8pm
Exhibition open to the public: April 13 – June 5, 2019.

The exhibition is produced by the Flagstaff Arts Council in partnership with the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition.
