March 31, 2016 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Coconino Center for the Arts
$12 advance, $8 students, $15 door

lobsterThis play features the story of Aaron Fricke, who sued his school to attend prom with a male companion in 1980. Unfortunately, bigotry, cruelty, and bullying are still with us. This unique production combining student actors with adult actors from Flagstaff and Sedona—a total of 39 actors comprise the cast—will give our community an opportunity to tackle timely issues currently affecting millions of us—children, youth, and adults. The production is presented by Flagstaff Arts & Leadership Academy and Canyon Moon Theatre.

The year is 1980 and Aaron Fricke is gay. Being gay makes Aaron different. With that stigma, he is subjected daily to violence and rejection–leaving him feeling dejected and with thoughts of suicide. Overcoming his despair, Aaron strikes back by suing his high school for the right to escort his boyfriend to the prom. By standing up for his personal and civil rights and for refusing to apologize for who he is, Aaron not only wins in court, but he also wins in the hearts and minds of his peers and his community.
