Flagstaff Arts Council, Vision Quest Entertainment and Dark Skies Coalition are pleased to present Lisa Downing and Liz Story in concert at Coconino Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 20th, 2019. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the show begins at 7:00 PM.
Liz and Lisa have been performing together for nearly a decade, and have developed a close friendship, which extends far beyond the musical stage. While the music of these artists has been compared with George Winston, and Jim Brickman, the compelling original music of these broadly imaginative composers possess an incomparable complexity, which might better be described as “Piano Impressionism.” Their incomparable styles feature angular harmonies, and range from jazzy new-age and upbeat neo-classical, to pieces reminiscent of an intensely somber and dramatic soundtrack for a “Twilight” – type saga.
Four-time Grammy Award Nominee, pianist-composer Liz Story is one of the pioneers of contemporary solo piano on the now legendary Windham Hill label. Her unique musical vision, often described as containing “angular harmonies,” defies traditional description and has inspired countless musicians since her debut album “Solid Colors” was released in 1983. In the following decades, Liz has delighted countless audiences with her unique performance style. With a dozen albums to her credit, her music crosses many musical genres and paints a spectacular musical panorama.
Lisa Downing is a Two-time Emmy® Award Winner. The multi-award-winning international concert pianist who is re-defining the genre of solo piano. Lisa’s most recent album, The Wisdom of My Shadow, debuted #5 on the Billboard Chart. Critics have said “Lisa’s performance will blow away all your previous assumptions about solo piano,” and “I am beyond impressed with the power and passion that flows from her fingers to the piano keyboard.” Ms. Downing performs all over the world with Grammy Award-winning musicians such as David Lanz, Will Ackerman, Suzanne Ciani, and Peter Kater.
The show will take place on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $30-35. Tickets can be purchased online, in person at Coconino Center for the Arts, or downtown at Arizona Music Pro (cash or check only). All ticket sales are final – no refunds will be issued.
