In celebration of the City of Flagstaff’s investment in the arts and sciences, the Flagstaff Arts Council will host a public reception on Thursday, August 28, at 5:30pm* in the Flagstaff City Hall Council Chambers. The reception celebrates the many recipients of Art & Science Fund grants through the Arts Council and their hard work for the community. Members of City Council will be in attendance to congratulate the grant recipient organizations and their representatives.
The Flagstaff Arts Council recently announced $300,000 in Art & Science Fund grants to local, art, science, and culture non-profit organizations. These grants are funded from the City of Flagstaff’s Bed, Board and Beverage (BBB) Revenues. For two months, a citizen review panel carefully read and reviewed applications, and heard presentations from applicants. The panel, consisting of Flagstaff resident volunteers, logged over 400 hours in volunteer service during the rigorous review period.
A recent economic impact study revealed that the non-profit arts and sciences sector contributes $73 million annually to the local economy, while directly attracting $22.8 million in tourist spending and raising $3.8 million is city and county tax revenue each year. Thirty-six applications to the Art & Science Fund were approved for funding, totaling $300,000 in grant awards. The list of funded applicants is posted in the grant section of our website. The total amount requested by applicants was $504,768.
*please note: this date changed. Originally it was set for Aug 21, but later re-scheduled to accommodate the schedules of Council members.
