The Arboretum at Flagstaff
In celebration of the recently announced Art & Science Fund grant awards, the Arts Council will host a reception at Lowell Observatory on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at 5pm. Members of City Council will be in attendance for the event, there will also be performances and presentations from a number of grant recipients.
The Flagstaff Arts Council is pleased to announce the grant recipients of the 2017-18 Art & Science Fund. The City of Flagstaff has again increased its investment in the non-profit arts and sciences sector, increasing the funding from the last fiscal year. $365,000 will be distributed to thirty-nine non-profit organizations, in support of art, culture and science programs that serve residents and visitors of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Art & Science Fund grants are funded from the City of Flagstaff’s Bed, Board and Beverage (BBB) Revenues. The Flagstaff Arts Council allocates the grant funding and manages the year-round grant program with volunteer efforts from a citizen review panel. The panel consists of Flagstaff residents who carefully read and review materials, and hear presentations from all applicants, during a rigorous review period. The Arts Council Board of Directors have approved the recommendations of the panel.

Nine grants for Project Support were provided to other non-profit organizations that produce arts, culture and/or science programs that provide a direct public benefit to the community. Funding supports public programs occurring between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018.
STEM Education Grants were also offered during FY18 for the second and final year. Two grants were awarded to support initiatives and/or organizations that strengthen Flagstaff STEM (science, technology, engineering and/or math) education programs for K-12 youth in Flagstaff.
A new economic impact study has been conducted and will be presented to the community this September, giving the arts and sciences sector its first comparative study to track its growth over the past five years. “The arts and sciences continue to thrive in our community and prove that this sector means big business for our small city.” Says John Tannous, Executive Director of the Flagstaff Arts Council. “The organizations that receive funding from the City of Flagstaff’s investment directly contribute to our unique, vibrant, and attractive community for residents and visitors.”
