Flagstaff Rotary Club Pledges Challenge Grant of $5,000 to COVID-19 Art & Science Nonprofit Relief Fund
Gift to Flagstaff Arts Council Will Be Reinvested in Nonprofit Art, Science, and Culture Organizations Impacted by Current Closures

Flagstaff Rotary Club announced on Monday, March 30, 2020, that its membership has pledged to match donations to Flagstaff Arts Council’s COVID-19 Art & Science Nonprofit Relief Fund through Monday, April 13. The fund was initially announced on March 15, 2020. Contributions will be matched up to $5,000. Supporters of art, science, and culture nonprofits are encouraged to donate on the arts council’s website at https://flagartscouncil.org/donate/.

“Rotary is dedicated to service to others, promoting integrity, and advancing understanding, goodwill, and peace in our community and world,” said Rotary President Jeff Ross. “Flagstaff’s art, science, and culture nonprofits build empathy, promote dialogue, and support understanding through art and discovery — which is incredibly important in this challenging time. This gift reflects the desire of our membership to put its resources into action and a commitment to maintaining a vibrant community.”

With the Rotary Club’s donation and anticipated matching gifts, the council will be able to grant up to $20,000 to art, science, and cultural nonprofit organizations impacted by closures and declining revenues related to the current pandemic. The arts council is actively seeking other challenge gifts, grants, and donations to grow the fund even more.

“We are thrilled that the Rotary Club prioritized Flagstaff’s creative community in making such an important gift,” stated arts council executive director Jonathan Stone. “One hundred percent of this gift and matching contributions will be very quickly put to use. The Arts Council awarded 54 grants to nonprofit groups over the past year and we are humbled that we are able to step up and support our nonprofit partners even more during this time.”

Grant applications are currently being accepted online at: https://flagstaffartscouncil.submittable.com/ The priority deadline for consideration of funding is Sunday, April 12, 2020 at midnight.
