2020 Viola Award Finalist for Excellence in Performing Arts

Theatrikids production of “The Wolves” was presented February 22-24, 2019 at Doris Harper-White Playhouse

Sarah DeLappe’s “The Wolves” is a 90 minute play that revolves around an adolescent girls’ indoor soccer team as they warm up to play soccer on several consecutive Saturdays during the course of their season. Though the girls are never named, we come to know who they are, their fears, their dreams and their love of the sport without being defined by males, adults or anyone else. This cast took an award winning play and made it their own. One of the first times this play has been performed by actors who are roughly the same age as their characters.

This play was performed and brought to life by 9 amazing teenage girls and 1 adult and was one of the most authentically raw and realistic portrayals of female adolescence. This was truly a fly on the wall look at what it means to be a female teen in America in the year 2019, covering topics from children detained at the border, to the morning after pill, to the hopes and dreams of using soccer as a way of bonding and breaking free.

Audience Review:

“These young women were so dedicated to the story of The Wolves, as an audience member it was very apparent. The strongest theater piece I saw all year long in Flagstaff!”
