It’s Elemental 2019

It’s Elemental 2019

Shelly White

It’s Elemental celebrates the talent and creativity of Arizona’s craftspeople by showcasing fine craft work that demonstrates a command of the medium and a high level of workmanship and design. The annual exhibition, hosted at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff, serves as a perfect lead up to the holiday season. The exhibition opens in November and remains open through mid December.

One of the most popular recurring exhibitions in Northern Arizona, It’s Elemental, dates back in Flagstaff for over 30 years. The exhibition has its roots in the earliest history of the Coconino Center for the Arts. When the Center opened in 1984, the exhibition was titled, “Wood, Fiber, Clay.” The Center closed in the late 1990′s, but when it reopened in 2001, the exhibition returned with its current name and concept.

The annual juried show features jewelry, ceramics, glasswork, wood, furniture, fabric, sculpture and more. This year’s exhibition will be open November 13 – December 14, 2019, Wednesday-Saturday, 11:00am-5:00pm.

In our lobby, we host It’s Ornamental on our Christmas Tree. Many of the participating artists have created one-of-a-kind handmade ornaments for the holiday season. They donated these to the Arts Council, and we sell them at affordable prices ($5 – $35) to raise money to support exhibitions at the Coconino Center for the Arts.

The exhibition is accompanied by the Fine Craft Sale on December 7-8, 2019, from 10 a.m. – 5p.m. on Saturday and from 12 – 4 p.m on Sunday. The Fine Craft Sale is a juried holiday marketplace featuring local craftspeople. Now in its eighth year, the Sale is a popular fixture in Flagstaff’s holiday season.
