It’s Elemental celebrates the talent and creativity of Arizona’s craftspeople by showcasing fine craft work that demonstrates a command of the medium and a high level of workmanship and design. The annual exhibition, hosted at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff, serves as a perfect lead up to the holiday season. The exhibition opens in mid-November and remains open through just before Christmas.
It’s Elemental, one of the most popular recurring exhibitions in Northern Arizona, dates back in Flagstaff for over 30 years. The exhibition has its roots in the earliest history of the Coconino Center for the Arts. When the Center opened in 1984, the exhibition was titled, “Wood, Fiber, Clay.” The Center closed in the late 1990′s, but when it reopened in 2001, the exhibition returned with its current name and concept.
Two other opportunities are currently open for artists:
The 11th annual Fine Craft Sale will be held in conjunction with It’s Elemental on the first weekend in December. The Fine Craft Sale is a 2-day artist marketplace with 18-20 artists selling their work in the gallery at the Coconino Center for the Arts. Artists may apply to have a booth at the Fine Craft Sale without having art in the It’s Elemental exhibition. The deadline to apply is September 28, 2017. Learn more >
Foundations is a juried exhibition of artwork by local college student artists, showing jewelry, ceramics, glasswork, wood, furniture, fabric, sculpture and more. Foundations accompanies the Main Gallery exhibition, It’s Elemental, which showcases works of art by the finest craftspeople in Northern Arizona.
Student artists enrolled and taking art classes in any post-secondary institution in Coconino, Yavapai, or Navajo county may submit art for consideration in the Foundations exhibition. The deadline to apply is October 12, 2017. Learn more >
