2017 Viola Award Nominee for Emerging Artist

Grace Novak is a senior Theatre performance major at NAU. She has distinguished herself over the last four years as an actor. You will have seen her in OF MICE AND MEN, QUILTERS, playing Columbina all over town in the Lazzi Posse, Shakespeare Alive, and most notably as Alma in SUMMER AND SMOKE.

NAU Department of Theatre produced Tennessee Williams’ 1948 drama Summer and Smoke at the Clifford White Theater from November 18 to December 4, 2016. The play was directed by Christina Gutierrez-Dennehy.

Audience Raves:

“Grace was truly a Tour De Force in SUMMER AND SMOKE.”

“I have to say that her performance in Summer and Smoke blew me away – she was not only in practically every scene, meaning she had to memorize an amazing number of lines, but the way she developed her character, the way she delivered her lines, her gestures, her body language – all combined to present us in the audience with an intimate and personal view into the very soul of her character. Watching Grace’s transformation from Act 1 to Act 2 was beautiful – in recent memory, I have not seen a young actor do so well with such a complicated and nuanced character over the space of 3 hours. She is the epitome of an emerging artist here in Flagstaff who will go on, I’m sure, to do wonderful  things in her field.”
