Wow Flagstaff! We are overrun with nominations from the community for the Viola Awards: a lot of passionate submissions for talented people and excellent projects have come in so far. Over 90 have been submitted, and more are coming in every day. Thank you to those who have submitted. If you want to add someone for consideration, you have until December 6 to send us something.
In case you are wondering how nominees and winners are selected, keep reading…
The process for our staff and volunteers is a huge undertaking. All submissions that are sent to us are thoroughly researched so that we can present complete information about projects and potential nominees to a group of panelists, made up of artists, educators, experts and past Viola winners. The Panels (different people serve on different panels, by category) review all of the compiled information. They meet, discuss the merits of each potential project or individual, and ultimately decide who will be official nominees. We typically seek to have between four and eight nominees in each category. So, it is important to note that not all community nomination submissions become official nominees.
Finally, the Panel meets again after nominees have been announced and discusses the merits of the official nominees. In what is often an agonizing decision due to the quality and talent of the nominees, they choose a winner. All the winners are then announced for the first time at the Gala event in March.
The Viola Awards Gala is set for Saturday, March 4, 2017. Get your tickets now!
The Official Nominees for the 2017 Viola Awards will be announced on January 5, 2017, on this website. Stay tuned!
