ffThere’s a distinct chill in the air as we head into October. But the cultural scene continues to be on fire. Okay, that was a really bad intro. Should I just stop now? Did you already click away? I’m sorry, I really am. Come back, there’s cool stuff happening this week in Flagstaff!

Obviously, I have to start with ArtWalk. For First Friday on October 7, there are great new art shows and live music all over downtown. At Wil McNabb Fine Jewelry, photographer Gina Dazzo will be featured. FMAC is showing new art by painter Bill Anderson. And at West of the Moon, the featured artist is Dave Rentz, showing new ‘dotted’ art work.

At the Pioneer Museum, you can catch the Heritage Festival this weekend. Demonstrations will include bee keeping, leather work, blacksmithing, candle making, ceramics, jewelry making, and a “ram-to-rug” shearing, carding, spinning, and weaving show. Whew!

This week will definitely be a delight for those who love the written word. The Narrow Chimney Reading Series is back at Uptown Pubhouse on Monday night with Michaela Carter, Ann Cummins, Susan Lang and Mary Sojourner. This week’s Poetry Slam at Firecreek Coffee features live music by Natalie Tate, and poet Becky Byrkit is reading with live music at Coconino Community College’s 25th Anniversary celebration.

misha_rachlevsky_high3_categoryBut that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Here’s the rapid-fire round: The Horizon Concert Series features Chamber Orchestra Kremlin (pictured) on Sunday night. The Hozhoni Art Gallery is hosting a celebration and closing reception Thursday night for their art exhibition, Heavenly Bodies and Extraterrestrial Experience. Tech N9ne is in concert at the Orpheum, as is Katastro. Magician Eric Giliam will wow you with magical wonders Saturday night. The Constant Wife continues at Theatrikos Theatre Company. And there’s a fun Sugar Skull Making Workshop hosted by Nuestros Raices on Friday evening.

That’s not everything, of course. For the full listing of events and details on each of these events, please visit Flagstaff365.com. Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,
