travisThe Arts Council is pleased to welcome new Artistic Director, Travis Iurato. Iurato began working with the Arts Council just before the holidays, and was in charge of installation for the Southwestern Invitational Exhibition that opened Saturday night.

Iurato hails from New York City, where he worked on exhibitions at the BRIC Rotunda Gallery and the Katherina Rich Perlow Art Gallery, and also worked at Art Conservation Associates. He graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City, and also attended the University of Barcelona School of Art in Spain.

Most recently, Iurato relocated to Rimrock, Arizona, where he co-founded the New Age Drinks Contemporary Art Gallery. There, he curated a handful of contemporary art projects before accepting the position at the Arts Council and relocating to Flagstaff.

In his new role, Iurato will oversee planning and production of all art exhibitions in the Main Gallery and the Jewel Gallery. Upcoming exhibitions in 2016 include the annual Youth Art Exhibition, Local Color, the annual It’s Elemental exhibition and more. Iurato will also oversee the 2016 ArtBox Institute, guiding students through this year’s program, and working with the instructors to build a strong curriculum.

Iurato is also an artist, working in mixed media, painting and sculpture. He is currently showing work at the Satellite Contemporary Gallery in Las Vegas.
