Flagstaff Arts Council is pleased to announce new Improvisational Comedy Workshops this summer taught by Garrison Garcia. The workshops take place in weekly sessions on Tuesdays between July 21st and August 25th, 2015. The camp will be held at the Coconino Center for the Arts, at 6:00- 8:00 p.m each Tuesday, culminating with a performance on Tuesday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m.
Participants in these workshops will learn the basics of listening, agreement and teamwork through the introduction of short form games. In sessions, students will focus on the exploration of characters, environments and organic openings. The last two weeks will teach long form principles, and prepare students for the stage. The workshops are designed for all levels of experience and skill.
Instructor Garrison Garcia has been silly all his life, and after giving improv comedy a try, he realized how silly EVERYONE can be. Most recently, he’s been performing with Northern Arizona University’s improv group, NAUghty Bits. Garrison is the founder and director of Flagstaff Foundry, a monthly community variety show hosted at The Circus Arts Studio, and he’s the founding member of Tiny Punches, the Circus Arts Studio house improv team. He firmly believes that anyone can do improv, and enjoys working with first timers as much as seasoned pros.
The Improvisational Comedy Workshops are for adults over 18. A special early bird rate of $100.00 is offered until July 1. The price increases to $125.00 through July 14 when registration closes. Participants can register and pay online. For more information or questions, call 928-779-2300.
