North Country HealthCare is a community health center that serves 14 communities across northern Arizona. Many would consider North Country HealthCare an unlikely place to find walls adorned with murals by Arizona’s preeminent artists, Shonto Begay and Bahe Whitethorne, whimsical textiles by Darcy Falk or the northern Arizona landscape and culture through the camera lenses of John Running, Tom Brownold, Jay Showers, Michael Collier and Kristen Dacey Iwai, to name just a few.

But the art displays don’t stop there. North Country HealthCare has also been a longstanding supporter and venue for the emerging artist. Our facilities display the works of local, less well-known artists such as the global photography of Greg Glau, Greg Larkin and Shari White, the portrait photography of Kalie Wolfinger, the mural of Brandon Rawls, and the stained glass/mosaic works of North Country’s CEO Ann Roggenbuck. Recently, its Williams location held a public exhibition for western photographer Val Jesse O’Feeney. North Country HealthCare also proudly displays the works of our patients and staff through a pediatric patient art wall and our annual employee Arty Bra display to raise breast cancer awareness.

Art in healthcare is a global movement that takes a broad-based approach in examining the uses of the arts in public health, health promotion and healthcare. Visual art in all forms combined with the healing arts promotes the well-being of those who are ill and encourages positive health outcomes.

North Country HealthCare’s inherent goal is to improve the delivery of care by offering creative channels for expression to local artists, stress reduction for staff and the heightening of positive thought processes to encourage healing for our patient population. Through local collaboration, North Country HealthCare plans to establish a Healing Arts Program where patients and employees can learn a variety of creative arts disciplines. Through this creative work patients and employees will learn alternative ways to relax the mind, energize the spirit and heal the body.

North Country HealthCare offers primary care, dental services, behavioral health and pharmacy services all under one roof. We operate 22 access points in 14 communities throughout northern Arizona providing over 140,000 patient visits last year. North Country HealthCare serves as the medical home for nearly 50,000 people throughout northern Arizona, 20,000 who reside in Flagstaff and the surrounding area. We are one of the largest employers in northern Arizona and acts as an important economic engine in our communities. North Country HealthCare accepts Medicare, Medicaid (AHCCCS), commercial insurance and offers a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. Because North Country HealthCare treats patients regardless of their ability to pay, the more insured individuals that are seen, the more uninsured North Country HealthCare can care for.
