The Flagstaff Arts Council is pleased to offer Figure Drawing Classes with instructor Shawn Skabelund. The classes are for any level of student, from beginner (first time figure drawing) to established artist. The workshop consists of 6 three-hour sessions drawing from a live model. Skabelund will lead the class through a number of exercises to develop an understanding of the human figure, and lay the ground work for further development outside the course.
Classes are Monday mornings, 9am-12pm, for six weeks beginning September 29 and continuing through November 3, 2014.
Skabelund is an award-winning artist and experienced educator; he taught figure drawing at Northern Arizona University for 12 years, and has taught at the Coconino Center for the Arts for the past two years. He received the 2014 Viola Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts for the exhibition, Virga: the Hunt for Water, which included his fine art drawings of the Abert squirrel. He also curated the exhibition of fine art figure drawings, Touching at a Distance, in 2011.
The Arts Council is also offering open session Figure Drawing with a live model for those artists who do not wish to have instruction. These sessions are on Monday nights, six weeks, 6-9pm from September 29 – November 3, 2014. To sign up for open sessions, click the button below.
