Terri Engel is the Hozhoni Foundations’s Day Program Administrator. Terri has a degree in Art education from Columbus College of Art and Design and Special Education form the Ohio State University. Over 20 years, Terri has been an advocate for individuals with disabilities. Terri is the driving force for people with special challenges and abilities to become active members of the Flagstaff community and some becoming artists with a voice within the Art community.
Terri has created day art programs within Hozhoni (80 to 100 people) using innovative approaches that connects with the individual as well as the families. From her passion came Hozhonis’ Expressive Arts Program that has been internationally recognized an award winning. Hozhoni now has an Art gallery here in town that allows all to take in the works of art taking you into the life or mind of the artist. In addition, she has spearheaded some of the art to travel throughout the state, country and internationally for the world to see. This past year Terri played a large role in organizing the Popular Recycled Arts Exhibit at the Hozhoni Art Gallery with the Artists Coalition and the City of Flagstaff.
Terri alongside Flagstaff artists coalition members arranged for the artists to be shown at the new gallery at the Flagstaff mall. Awards she has received included 2000 ”Best Practice Recognition” Arizona Department of Economic Security Department of Developmental Disabilities and 2007 ”Advocate of the year” City of Flagstaff Commission on Disability Awareness” at Columbus College of art and design studied with Don Jones a founding member and past PresIdent of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).
